This lovely woman walked by and I was pumped with how fabulous she came to the event today! Heading downstairs to the big ballrooms, she was going to duke it out against the greats wearing this excellent outfit! I even offered her a green bracelet to go with the green outfit, and she happily accepted. Let’s see some more exciting outfits tomorrow!

What was it like on the scene this morning? Here’s a quick preview!

Shuffle & Deal The Real NABC Starts Today Welcome! Today is when we really get going with the tournament, we
Welcome to San Francisco! Most people, myself included will be arriving on the scene today! And while I’ve always been curious why the tournament doesn’t start with a BANG — launching big events the first day, in some ways it’s nice that the first day is more of a casual side game situation.
Why? Well, for those playing in the Soloway or the Nail, it’s nice to have a low stakes warm-up game. Whether it’s to shake off the first round jitters, remind yourself what it’s like to play with your partner in person, or just to throw cards and watch them take tricks.
It’s nice to have a casual space to do that, so you may find yourself playing against teams that are strong contenders in the major events. Last year the international swiss featured Sergio Bianchi & Franceso Mazzadi who came in the top 50 of the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs, Ahu Zobu & Viktor Aronov who ranked 3rd in the Oshlag Fast Pairs in Philly this summer, Junior Jeff Xiao, and Team Dinkin (Sam Dinkin, Jacob Freeman, Ulf Nilsson, Owen Lien).
If you’re looking for an opportunity to play against tougher competition and get your bridge feet wet… consider stopping by one of the events today!
Tomorrow the LM Pairs start at 10AM, and the Soloway starts at 1PM.
Keep your eyes peeled for the greats walking around the airport or the playsite. I can't help but run into bridge players when I'm traveling!
I'll be posting updates on the games as they come in. Make sure to check back later for more fun updates.
Vugraph coverage starts on Sunday -- hopefully we can convince the committees to start coverage earlier in the future!
While there's no welcome party, make sure to register for the tournament during your time in San Francisco! You'll usually get a fun, free souvenir!
Today the two groups of games are focused on the International Fund and the educational foundation! What's the point?
Well -- the International Fund games are intended to contribute to a fund that helps defray the cost of North American participation in international competitions, for example the Bermuda Bowl, which Team USA brought home the gold for earlier this year!
Then the Educational Foundation Games are to the benefit of our educational efforts. It helps fund teachers who drive new players to the game and inspire higher level participation! It also helps us start programs in schools, colleges, and community centers. And if you've ever been a fan of the Collegiate Bridge Bowl -- a lot of the funding comes from the Educational Foundation as well.
So if you decide to play today, thank you for helping grow the game of bridge!
Travel Day! Will add more photos later!
